Eligibility
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE J1 BRIDGEUSA SUMMER CAMP EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Are You Eligible for the J1 BridgeUSA Summer Camp Exchange Program?
Ready to spend your summer working at an awesome camp in the USA? If you’re dreaming of a summer packed with adventure, new friends, and professional growth, the J1 BridgeUSA Summer Camp Exchange Program with CIEE is your ticket to an unforgettable experience. But before you pack your bags and start planning your epic summer, here’s what you need to know about eligibility.
So, who can apply?
To be eligible for the J1 BridgeUSA Summer Camp Exchange Program, you need to meet a few key requirements:
Age
You must be between 18 and 27 years old (inclusive) on the date you apply. You don’t need to be a student either! So, whether you’re working full-time, a recent grad or still in school, if you're in that age range, you’re good to go!Fluent in English
You don’t need to be a language expert, but you should be comfortable communicating in English. You’ll need to interact with campers and staff, so being able to speak and understand English is a must.Experience with Kids (or a Passion for It!)
Having experience working with children is a big plus—whether it’s as a babysitter, tutor, coach, or volunteer. If you’ve got a genuine love for working with kids and have some background in leading activities or taking care of them, you're all set!Ready for Adventure
You must be ready to live and work in the US for up to 4 months (most camp jobs last around 8-12 weeks during the summer (Jun-Aug)). This means being prepared to work hard, learn new skills, and embrace a totally different culture. Bonus points if you're a pro at stepping outside your comfort zone!Willing to Work as a Counsellor or Activity Specialist
Camp counsellors don’t just supervise campers—they lead activities, organize games, and help kids grow. If you’re into teaching sports, arts and crafts, music, or anything in between, you’ll probably fit right in as an Activity Specialist.Intention to Return Home After the Program
The J1 BridgeUSA Summer Camp Exchange Program is a temporary cultural exchange program, so you need to show your intention to return to your home country after the summer camp experience e.g. a return flight ticket to Ireland. This is a key part of your visa application.
